A Knitted Frenzy

Road Trip

I'm going to my brother's house tonight.  Whee!  It's not a long drive and I'll be out of the smog and gunk for 2+ days.  I'm taking my friend B with me, my two dogs and not much else (maybe a little knitting... like a sock!) 

Places to see/Things to do:

*Dog Beach (so much fun to play with the dogs in the ocean... Sam's been there before, this'll be Jessie's first time.)
*Buy salt water taffy but only if I can pick and choose what flavors I want: lemon, peanut butter, vanilla and chocolate.
*Go to Splash Cafe for clam chowder in a bread bowl - yum!
*Go to Hearst Castle (we already have tickets for tour #4 - gardens and wine cellar - I was 8 the last time I went to Hearst Castle.)
*Go wine tasting at some point (it's a waste to go all that way and not hit at least one winery.)
*Go to SLO for dinner Saturday night (lo-lo might be working but hopefully not.)
*Take lots and lots of pictures to post next week!  See you then!

I did it

I finished my fourth sweater.  :)  Well, okay, I still need to find buttons for it but "technically" it's done.  I blocked and everything.  And yes, I'm wearing it at work where I took this picture, despite the fact that it's supposed to be in the low 90s today - it's a freezer box in my office.  (Never mind the mess behind me.)  This is the beast that I frogged 15 times on the left side before I threw at a wall in frustration.  I started it last year so I'm very happy to have it done.

It's Debbie Bliss's Ribbed Cardigan in her Cashmere Collection.  I used merino aran, instead of the cashmerino aran the pattern called for because I couldn't find it cheap enough (and this was one of my first big yarn purchases and projects that I bought so I pretty much stuck to whatever the designer said to use - thank the heavens I now know how to substitute!)  And in case you can't tell (because the lighting in my office is apparently yellow) the sweater is a pretty plum color.  I did eventually find cashmerino aran in black that I will be casting on for a second sweater.  :)  Yay me.

Why don't you undo it and knit it into something else?

Be still my knitty heart.  After only three months of knowing me and my yarn fetish, he comes up with that one (and thank goodness because for some reason the thought never crossed my mind).

Sorry, this one's just too good to not blab about.  Bo Peep's Wool Shop is have a 20% off all yarn sale through tomorrow, Sept. 24.  It only started yesterday so I'm not too too late jumping on this bandwagon.

What a show

Tuesday night we had a grand showing of thunder and lightning here.  I love thunder and lightning. I'm like a little kid "ooo, didja see that one??"  I couldn't get many pics to turn out (my camera was being weird - or I just haven't figured out all it's neat features yet...)  I sat in the dark, however, for three hours because my power went out.  I seem to be the only person I know that sat in the dark.  I lit candles, listened to my iPod in one ear, thunder in the other and wrote 8 pages in my journal.  :)  If you look very very closely at the picture of the candles, you'll see a reflection of my knees and my journal sitting on my lap.

In other news....

I had to get my window replaced this morning because a teeny tiny crack spread to over 18" while I went to lunch yesterday.  Not happy.

Every second counts

Especially when there are only 7,919,014 seconds till D-day!

Warm Up the South!

I first heard about Warm Up America! when I read Debbie MacComber's A Good Yarn.  I decided that was something I needed to do - something good for someone else.  Then, on the knittyboards, I found that many fellow knitters are knitting specifically for the Katrina victims.  That's even better, I thought.  So here are the beginnings of my blocks:

Unfortunately, I didn't read the directions very clearly.  The folks at Warm Up America! have requested 100% acrylic yarn and here I am knitting up Lion Brand Wool-Ease, which we all know is a blend of acrylic and wool.  <sigh>  So I went out and bought Caron's Simply Soft.  I just don't have any pics yet.

I've been blessed by a close family member.  Let's just say I'm now able to hire the kick ass attorney I consulted with in May.  The divorce is "supposed" to be final three days before Christmas.  With her on my side, I'm thinkin' it's going to be right on schedule.

Tiny Confession to Make...

I am in love with La Mer creme!  And have been for years.  I can't give it up, even though I'm a consultant for the Pink Cosmetic Company (who shall remain nameless because i'm not allowed to advertise here)... I do love my Pink Cosmetics and Skin Care because they are fabulous products.... but I am addicted to the miraculous qualities of La Mer!

I can't afford the $90 jar so I buy tiny sample jars on ebay (our department store doesn't carry La Mer).  Terrible, I know.  If I would just save my money up, I could buy a big jar.  <sigh> 

99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall...

... actually only 99 days left!
